sically in Germany. German Christmas decorations are quite special and as per the German tradition, Christmas preparations start before December comes in. However, the actual Christmas celebration starts on the 6th of December. This Christmas decor has a unique characteristic, according to which children cannot take part in the decoration of the tree. It is believed that the tree has some secret magical spell for all young eyes looking at it before Christmas Eve. This is why the Christmas tree is decorated on Christmas Eve before the evening feast.
While the mother takes out the Christmas tree from a hidden place to decorate it with fruits, chocolates, cookies, candies, toys, candles, lights, etc, the father keeps the children in the room away from the Christmas tree before decoration. Under the tree, surprise gifts are kept for all children, which are opened after the Christmas Eve dinner. The custom of giving gifts also started in Germany wherein small toy items like dolls, drums, ribbon, etc were hung over the Christmas tree. These days, the trees are decorated with stars, glass materials, angels, Santa and are also adorned with Germany special lighting bulbs. Initially, Christmas lighting was not the part of German decoration but it started in the late 1990s.
Hand-stitched tablecloths were used to decorate the dinner table. Nativity scenes carved out of wood and decoration of Christmas windows are quite favored components of the German decor. Christmas windows are decorated with handmade crafts like Christmas star, a puppet of Santa clause by hanging them over the windows. Shiny balls and tinsels are few of the ornaments of Christmas decorations, which are German innovations contributing to the German Christmas decorations.
